Rugby Icon Chooses Plantation Shutters to Secure his Cape Town Home  

Former professional rugby player Schalk Burger recently became the proud owner of a set of plantation shutters at his home in South Africa.

To complete the installation, our technical expert, Duncan Maffey, travelled to Cape Town to work with the team at Blockhouse Shutters. The trip provided the ideal opportunity for Duncan to gain hands-on installation experience, whilst boosting his technical knowledge of the product.

The Customer’s Requirements

Schalk Burger travels for work and is often away from home, so security was a major concern for him and his family. However, his wife is an interior designer so whilst security is paramount, they were also looking for something stylish that suited the home’s interior and exterior style.

Three vulnerable windows needed securing. These were located in a kid’s room, a guest room with open access to the patio and a Victorian bay window in the home’s open-plan living area. The new shutters were needed to replace large steel burglar bars, which, whilst providing adequate security, were not aesthetically pleasing. To match the couple’s neutral colour scheme, Schalk and his wife opted for white shutters

The Installation

Duncan flew out to Cape Town to join Blockhouse Shutters’ installation team and their Technical Director. The installation, which took place in just one day, went smoothly despite the restricted space within the property.

The Outcome

Following the smooth installation, Schalk and his wife have confirmed they are huge fans of their new shutters. In fact, they are already planning to use plantation shutters to upgrade additional windows in their home.
